Our Director of Online Marketing took STRONG WILL Director, Kristofer Weston out to lunch and and asked him a few questions about his thoughts on this movie and the Industry in general.
1. How long have you been in the industry?
I started as an actor in 1990, but I didn't direct my first movie until 1994, so I guess I have actively been behind the camera as either a director, producer or distributor for 14 years now.
2. How did you get into it?
Well, I started by performing in them to make enough money for college. I actually used to be a blond haired twink back then. I started my own distribution company in San Francisco and started to direct my own videos for that. I really enjoyed the directing and started to do it for a couple of other companies. But I never expected to make it this far though - now I'm working with the hottest men in the world at COLT Studio Group! These are the guys and this is the studio I have always lusted after since puberty!
3. How did you come up with the concept for STRONG WILL?
Actually the movie kind of had a life of its own. Zack Randall brought this philosophy book with him to the set and was reading it on his breaks. I took a look at it and couldn't make heads or tails out of it and thought what a novel way to dispel the myth that our actors are only eye candy. They actually continually surprise me with how super intelligent they really are. So I decided to have this book become the central theme to all of these characters.
4. How many movies have you directed?
Hard to say how many because some of them were on video tape that never got transferred to DVD, so are gone forever. I've never really counted, but I would guess it's in the 40-50 title range.
5. Do you have any favorites?
Absolutely! The first title John Rutherford hired me for is very special to me : Branded. Also Boot Black Blues with Danny Roddick and Paradise Found in Hawaii were amazing movies that are just now getting the recognition they deserve!
6. What directors do you admire?
Hands down it would be John Rutherford who really mentored me and taught me so much over the last few years. I been fortunate enough to watch him first hand as he directs the COLT Studio line these past four years and have been able to use a lot of his style on my own Buckshot features. The great thing about John is he knows how to work with creative people and always allows me the freedom to inject my own personality into my movies.
7. What do you think about the change to online from DVDs and does it have an effect on your directing style?
Whether you view it in your vcr, dvd player or online; a movie is still a movie. I don't direct them any differently because of the format they may be viewed on. I personally think online is faster and quicker, so I'm thrilled to see the migration to online!
8. What are you working on now? What is the release date?
I'm working on a fun "Summer" movie of hot boy romping in the sun around water and pools to be called Splish Splash. Should be released in July on COLTstudiogroup.com!
